My work as senior-scientist has ended with retirement by November 2006. The last decade within the Neuroregeneration group at the NIN was devoted to cell and gene therapeutic efforts to initiate regenerative axonal growth of long tracts in the injured spinal cord and peripheral nervous system. Part of these studies were performed within NEST (“Neuroregeneratie Studiegroep”). Next studies on ethical issues of human (stem)cell and gene transfer were performed within European frameworks programs (BioMed, European Academy, Dutch Health council, Clinigene) and within the European Network of CNS Transplantation and Regeneration (NECTAR). Currently I am member of the board of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) and acting as chair of the Local Organizing Committee of the 7th FENS Forum of European Neuroscience that will be held in Amsterdam between July 3-7, 2010, among many other Dutch neuro-organisational activities.
