Lauw Klaassen, PhD

I started working as a postdoc in the group of Maarten Kamermans in 2008.
My main interest is how plasticity in synaptic communication between neurons and in excitability of neurons plays a role in the functioning of the nervous system. Ideally this should be studied in a relatively simple neuronal network of identified neurons. The retina is a good model for research on synaptic communication, because the function of the different cell-types is known. The focus of my experiments is the role that connexins play in the feedback from horizontal cells to cones at the synaptic terminal.
