Theme 1

Retinal Network Physiology

In this theme, we want to understand how retinal neurons communicate with each other and work together to transform the image falling on the retina into coded neuronal activity. We study the retina at various levels ranging from the molecular level (ion channels), via synaptic contacts towards the behavior of neuronal networks and eventually the whole animal. At present this theme consists of three lines of research.

Theme 2

Quantitative Retinal Models

This theme aims at developing quantitative models of the retina. We use the natural stimuli and their statistics for investigating and understanding retinal processing, and develop models of retinal processing that can handle natural stimuli. The present focus is on models describing information processing in primate and fish retina.

Theme 3

Circuitry of the Human Retina
